On August 1-2, the Ice Cream Cruise raised $14,669 for the Brain Cancer Research Fund. The money will help oncologists such as Drs. Nicole Shonka and Michelle Aizenberg advance patient therapies, while finding more effective ways of detecting and diagnosing malignancies in the brain.

“We had a great weekend with tons of awesome cars and smiles everywhere you looked,” says Kyle Loftis, one of the event organizers. “We’re so excited to give this donation to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. It’s a great cause.”

On August 7, the second annual Fairways Fore Airways Golf Scramble was held at Tiburon Golf Club in Omaha. Tim and Leah Bochnicek organized the event, which raised $15,000 for lung cancer research. In December 2013, Leah was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She’s a patient of Nebraska Medicine oncologist Alissa Marr, MD, who was the keynote speaker at the golf tournament.

“We are very excited and humbled by the generosity of our golfers and the greater metro area,” says Tim Bochnicek. “We hope to do more events in November, which happens to be lung cancer awareness month.”
